Tilli and Meg and All Things Nice.

 We had a very mixed bag of weather today, The sun came out in the afternoon for a little while, Tilli enjoyed it.

 As did Meg.

 This is what I have been making in the evenings, thumb pincushions,  Scissor holders with pincushion brooches and more felt paisley brooches. All these will be going with me to Crafty Hijinks to go into the Goodie Take Home Bags

This morning one of my sons surprised me with letting me know that Spotlight had 40% off all fabrics including sales stuff, when I told him that I knew but had no money he said My treat. How lovely. These fabrics were on sale at $3 a metre and with 40% off they were further reduced to $1.80 per metre. I bought a metre each.

These are what I will be making with the delicious fabrics. These I bought at the Quilt and Craft fair recently and e-mailed the designers asking for permission to use them for charity. I have has the wonderful reply of yes from both so I will be making them very very soon for the charity Angels for the Forgotten.

I have just ordered some Parlan (lightweight fusible fleece) from Fee's Shabby Shack, I don't know what it looks like, but I am looking forward to trying it out.

Aussie Hero Laundry Bags.

  My choices of fabric start at the op shops. Primarily Savers because it is close by. A couple of reasons for this, I like to re use and recycle as much as possible, It helps another charity at the same time, I have a good relationship with them. Get to know your local op shop and see what happens.

  I am writing this piece to help you think about the fabric possibilities out there, I use sheeting, quilt covers and even cotton curtains. I take my time in there and turn everything inside out before I buy to make sure that what I get I can use Check the labels too to make sure that it is indeed cotton For linings I like to add colour, even if it is a pop of colour, even floral. Nothing wrong with a bit of femininity in the laundry.

Stripes, plain, patterned It all adds to the surprise.

 

For the outer covers I look for pop culture, cartoons, movies Kids prints are great as the bags are often given to their children when they go home. and generic fabrics. Lots of bright pops of colour. Here are some examples.

 I was in the queue when I spotted a neighbour and got chatting. I told her about Aussie Heroes, gave her my card (I made some at home with my blog header and printed a copy of Aussie Heroes on the back, 2 for 1). I also had a 50% off card when you spend $50 or more, My exact amount I had on me, telling her this, she just like that gave me $20 to get some more fabric, So I did!

So this is it all, Cut up and ready to sew, 114 pairs of fabric equals 57 bags ready to sew.

Baby Sets.

 Finished today are 2 baby sets for my nieces neighbours who are both expecting babies in a couple of weeks time. I will have to find better light globes cos they don't quite match the colours in artificial light.

They are getting picked up mid week. I am also busy making cord as I have run out.

Aussie Hero Laundry Bags.

A couple of days ago I set myself a challenge, I just wanted to see how many I could make in one day. I made 20 laundry bags. Today I posted them. It was a fun challenge that I do not see myself breaking any time soon!

Craft & Quilt Fair.

The Craft & Quilt Fair is on in Melbourne at the moment, and I had a wonderful surprise, My Hubby took me to it yesterday, and I am still buzzing! Two outings in one week! I saw the lovely Jodie, a real highlight for me. I also bumped into some other people I knew too. If you have a chance to go you should. This is the link to know more.

Crafty Hijinks
On the 15th September at the Brown Hill Hall is an event. Jodie Carleton of Ric-Rac has all the info on her blog. It is going to be very low-key but lots of fun. Its a day just for hanging out, chatting, laughing and crafting. Its early days, but we have a local shop setting up a stall for the day, some door prizes and plans for goody bags. You don’t have to be cool or groovy or particular friends with anyone – You just need to be a blogger-its that simple. Come in a group or come along on your own.
