Donations And Next Quilt.

 Thank you to the 3 ladies involved for sending me all this lovely stuff. This morning I received 2 large postbags with batting and fabric for Aussie Hero makes.

Things were quiet here last week, I took a few days off from sewing as I was not feeling that great and rest and sleep was the order of the week. Feeling much better now and started my next Aussie Hero quilt request.The blocks will be part applique part paint.

Almost Ready To Assemble The Blocks.

 The back is fine. This will have visible sashings.

The front has one block that needs re doing. The lower left block is incorrect. Once I have fixed it then it is ready to assemble. I am making good use of the cooler weather today. No sashings on the front.

A Very Special Lunch.

Yesterday I had the most wonderful experience. Meeting one of my Aussie Hero recipience and his lovely family.  He wanted to thank me personally and so we had lunch in Eltham coffee shop next to the library. To hear how uplifting these gifts are for them first hand is truly humbling. A day I will remember for a very long time. Thank you for your service. What a lovely family!

Fabric Donation.

This lovely parcel of fabric arrived today for Aussie Hero quilts from the lovely Diana of South Australia, a friend of Mae. Thank you so very very much. Keep an eye out for when the quilt is made as you will likely see them being used in appliques.

 Yesterday I was at the AQC talking about Aussie Heroes and I loved it.

 Super stuff!

I took a quick mini break away to take a look at Frankie and Dee, Jodie Carletons' newest creation and to my surprise she has already made them into a pattern. I am estatic and bought one. Now to find the time to make them. The badge next to it you can get one by going to the show and making a laundry bag in the Bernina Sewing Room at 10.30 am and 1.30 pm at the AQC. Cost for participating is $5. Bernina is putting in $5 for each participation too. Thank you Bernina for your support.

 We have a raffle for this wonderful Bernina sewing machine at the show, $2 each or 3 for $5.

Poppy Blocks.

7 poppy blocks made this morning and now on their way to Aussie Hero headquarters to go with other peoples blocks to make special quilts for Anzac. Just one of the ways to help in this really good cause.

Laundry Bag.

Laundry bag to go with the quilt just made. I chose this T towel because of the colours, they compliment the quilt nicely.

 The fabric I was waiting for to finish the bags arrived yesterday and so today they are finished and posted.

This is the lining. Note the special fabric given by a fellow Aussie Hero supporter. Just perfect.

Laundry Bag.

This is the laundry bag to go with the quilt. She wanted something fun and Queensland, I think banana and pineapples say it for me, and also the fabric is blue her favourite colour. Posting it this afternoon.
My next quilt is going to be a new one for me, trying out paper piecing. The theme dragons! after that in January I will be making a whole load of laundry bags.

Quilt Continued.

This is the quilt so far. The logos have been appliqued on and the name written with fabric markers. They will be trimmed and sewn together with no strips in between and the seams opened up and pressed flat. There are 5 rows of 3 blocks. The back will then be pinned on and quilted again and the binding put on. The binding will be in red.

Savers Shopping.

Savers did not disappoint! Inspirational book marks, 65 of them for $5.00! They are all the same. They had other packets there with things like Grandma, sister etc not suitable for my use. These will go into the Aussie Hero drawer to be included in their care package. Love, love LOVE these stencils! Australian animal stencils. They are brand new, the store label was Toyworld at $14.95 I got them for $4.00. I can use them in 2 ways. straight forward stencils using fabric markers, or pencil them onto fabric for placement and use the pieces for applique. Probably more if I want to think about it!

Making Labels.

I thought I might like to share with you how I make the labels for Aussie Hero Quilts.
I bought this book of transparency film from Savers and I had an idea, I made a template using the font, CutOutsFLF a free font, cut it out using a silhouette SD and a fabric marker and cotton fabric. I just have to run the marker over the letters, easy, quick and so much nicer than my own handwriting! Set the fabric marker using a hot iron for 4 minutes and you are done. I will be making a few of them and putting them into a tin ready to go for quilts in the future. I have 6 quilts ready to post on Monday and will be changing those labels tomorrow.

This is the place I was at this afternoon/evening for the wonderful presentation and guest speaker Jan-Maree all the way from Sydney the founder and brilliant organizer of Aussie Heroes Quilts and laundry bags. A wonderful and thoroughly engaging speaker whose passion shone through, I do believe she has now got more people to follow and make for her after this. It was just wonderful to meet her in person.

New Quilt Project.

 These are the fabrics I am using for my next quilt project. The colours requested are purples and yellows with a silhouette of the ship.The ship will be going on the back of the quilt with the anchor  fabric.

 Making the blocks, they have a 4 1/2 inch square in the middle, purple or yellow.

 Followed by 2 1/2 inch strips on each side and top and bottom in yellow or purple.

 Cut and trimmed ready for the last row.

 Final cut is trimming them off at an angle to give the blocks movement to 11 inches.

 These are the blocks ready to sew.

Shopping!

They just arrived! The long ones I will cut in half as they are 17cms long! I am so happy I just went back and bought the last 5 packs. at $5 each Great stuff! They should keep me going for a couple more years.

Latest Purchase.

 Just arrived. My first part of my gift pack makes. 500 pens on ebay for $ 34.00 including postage. This makes the pens 14c each. The cheapest I found in the stores were 20c each for the plastic ballpoint

Just waiting for the emery boards to come, I bought 60 for $10. then I am all set to make the laundry bags again. They should keep me going for quite a while. The quilt top I am making is almost finished.

Spotlight Shopping.

I bought all this yarn today in Spotlight to turn into cord for Aussie Heroes and Laundry bags. For a couple of weeks now I have been looking for more cord making stuff. I will be twisting 2 stands together and zig zagging it on the sewing machine. At 50c a ball (original price $8 a ball I have made a great saving. 42 balls for $21 I can get back into making the bags again.
