Insomnia

People who know me personally, know i don't sleep much. Not one to complain because of a bad spell 2 years ago when i went nearly 3 weeks without sleep but that is something i accept. Now i am grateful for 2 hours and sometime 3 per night when things are normal. I did not expect to even get the "normal" sleep because of Christmas and New Year But sometimes it gets too much, and i thought i might put it out there for suggestions. (I am going through a particularly bad spell at the moment), Day 4 and counting.
It does affect me, my thoughts slow down and concentration gets muddled. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you cope?

  1. I feel for you. I don't sleep well myself and can go days without any sort of real sleep. I do lots of things but I have to mix it up to have it help. I do crossword puzzles most of all. I drink warm milk and I turn off the tv early so my mind has time to slow down. I listen to a couple of different cds but Ray Lynch seems to have music that pulls my mind away from too much thinking. I have accepted it in many ways and I read alot while everyone is sleeping and I've taken to lying down for cat naps. I have honestly done this at work because I work on my own alot so it's not a problem but at home everyone knows if I am asleep leave me alone since it doesn't last long. I'm going to check back here to see what ideas you get!

  2. Hi Sue,
Oh honey, I'm feeling for you.
My hubby also goes through stages of insomnia.
I wonder if you just have trouble getting to sleep (I would suggest reading in a nice warm bath) or that you only sleep for a couple of hours and then wake up?
Have you cut out caffine, do you get enough excercise?
There are herbal tablets called Valerian to help you sleep!
I'll be watching to see what other advice comes along and wish you all the best for a long, good night sleep.
    Hugs,
    Anna

  3. It is so hard to function without sleep - I have a neck injury and find it difficult to get to sleep and stay asleep. I recently purchased the whole range of the Body Shop's "Deep Sleep" Range. There is a shower gel, a body moisturiser and a spray for your pillows and bed linen which you spray as you are going to bed. I have a really hot shower and use the gel then I rub in the cream and use the spray and it has been helping - I am not sure for how long but it is made from essential oils and has a really relaxing effect. Good Luck with it.

  4. Hi Sue, I really feel for you as i have an ongoing problem with lack of sleep (ever since I got CFS). Its sort of getting under control at the moment as the anti-depressants I'm using seem to help. Apparently my serotonin levels need replacing due to years of sleeplessness. I have to say I better understand why you get so much craft done as I did too during my worse patches. Craft was the only thing that kept me sane, but I never really coped well with it.
    I wish I could help.
    Hugs,
    Sharon

  5. I forgot to mention a cd I have that helps sometimes. I've had it for years but i just checked and it's still available. Steven Halprin's Higher Ground. I googled him and he's got lots of other stuff now so I may get one of the healing cds. I think I've had Higher Ground since Hannah was small and she's 17 now!
