Crafternooners

For a couple of weeks my Crafternooners have been working with felt. I have been asking them to save all the little bits of felt that they think could not be used and they will be making little pictures that will be tags, cards and brooches. They will embroider them and add sequins and beads. This is just an idea of what they could be coming up with.

Aussie Hero Laundry Bags

 Last night I made these bags. The Harry Potter one is a special request.

This one also a special request, Sponge Bob Square Pants! This has gone to Jan-Maree along with the rest of the fabric, (it was a queen sized doona cover) to be made into a quilt. I would imagine that the pictures would be fussy cut an added to a quilt.

Tuesday's Treasures

 My friend Melody is playing a game called Tuesday's Treasures. This is mine. A hat box. This was what a gift was given to me in and I use it every day, currently I am making cord for Aussie Heroes laundry bags. It stops the ball of fabric yarn from going all over the place. I also use it for when I am knitting too. Very useful.

Making them into sets of 4 which is how I parcel my bags when I have made them. This way I can see right away how many I have ready to use.

Tilli and Meg and All Things Nice.

 We had a very mixed bag of weather today, The sun came out in the afternoon for a little while, Tilli enjoyed it.

 As did Meg.

 This is what I have been making in the evenings, thumb pincushions,  Scissor holders with pincushion brooches and more felt paisley brooches. All these will be going with me to Crafty Hijinks to go into the Goodie Take Home Bags

This morning one of my sons surprised me with letting me know that Spotlight had 40% off all fabrics including sales stuff, when I told him that I knew but had no money he said My treat. How lovely. These fabrics were on sale at $3 a metre and with 40% off they were further reduced to $1.80 per metre. I bought a metre each.

These are what I will be making with the delicious fabrics. These I bought at the Quilt and Craft fair recently and e-mailed the designers asking for permission to use them for charity. I have has the wonderful reply of yes from both so I will be making them very very soon for the charity Angels for the Forgotten.

I have just ordered some Parlan (lightweight fusible fleece) from Fee's Shabby Shack, I don't know what it looks like, but I am looking forward to trying it out.

Aussie Hero Laundry Bags.

  My choices of fabric start at the op shops. Primarily Savers because it is close by. A couple of reasons for this, I like to re use and recycle as much as possible, It helps another charity at the same time, I have a good relationship with them. Get to know your local op shop and see what happens.

  I am writing this piece to help you think about the fabric possibilities out there, I use sheeting, quilt covers and even cotton curtains. I take my time in there and turn everything inside out before I buy to make sure that what I get I can use Check the labels too to make sure that it is indeed cotton For linings I like to add colour, even if it is a pop of colour, even floral. Nothing wrong with a bit of femininity in the laundry.

Stripes, plain, patterned It all adds to the surprise.

 

For the outer covers I look for pop culture, cartoons, movies Kids prints are great as the bags are often given to their children when they go home. and generic fabrics. Lots of bright pops of colour. Here are some examples.

All this lot of fabrics I bought from Savers yesterday.

 I was in the queue when I spotted a neighbour and got chatting. I told her about Aussie Heroes, gave her my card (I made some at home with my blog header and printed a copy of Aussie Heroes on the back, 2 for 1). I also had a 50% off card when you spend $50 or more, My exact amount I had on me, telling her this, she just like that gave me $20 to get some more fabric, So I did!

So this is it all, Cut up and ready to sew, 114 pairs of fabric equals 57 bags ready to sew.
