Shopping And Quilt Continued.
In the Op shop (Vinnies, South Morang) today I bought these pens, all with 2018 on them for the packages to go with the quilts and laundry bags. 9 packs of 5 for $9.
For myself I bought all these acrylic paints and opaque paints. Total cost, $40.
This is the quilt so far. All the solid blocks will have colours pulled out from the green background, mustard yellow and a blue. Meggie is helping. This is not the layout.

Quilt For My Grand Nephew.
Today I cut out all the pieces for my Grand Nephews quilt. I am changing it up a bit but it is from Happy Quilts by Antonie Alexander. Hound Dog quilt.

I am using wool for the dog from mens jackets. I cut the pieces larger than needed and washed and dried it and then put a stabilizer on the back then cut them out. Blanket stitched down. I will be using buttons for eyes that will be stitched and glued down. My sister is coming to Australia for work and will be taking the quilt back with her. I am love with it already.

This time because the blocks are staggered they will be joined together in long groups instead of going across.

Next Aussie Hero Quilt Started.
The request is for Australian flowers,
and Australian birds. This cotton T Towel from my local shop is perfect. I will be quilting it all over, outlining all the birds and leaves, and stippling, then going back with the bird colours and leaf colours to add more detail with stitching. It will then be cut out straight and used as a centre block on the quilt.

Aussie Hero Quilt Continued.
Finished Aussie Hero block.
this is how I did the free motion quilt block. This is what is going to be in all the blocks. I just cut a square of paper, folded it into 1/4 and snipped bits off.
I then sewed the cut out segments and mirrored it from there.
Since this quilt is travel and coffee I went to Spotlight to see what they had on special.
The fabric has a light interfacing put onto it first to make it more manageable, it is a busy fabric and not easy to fussy cut so I cut it into squares to add to the quilt.
This coffee fabric however is easy to fussy cut. This is first made more manageable by adding a light interfacing.
Fussy cut out.
Thanks Sis for the most fun I have had in ages, Thank you for the lovely Christmas Spotlight e-voucher.

My Time Saving Trick.
I thought I might like to share with you my time saving trick for an Aussie Hero Quilt. As you know I love the Quilt as you go blocks. So I know that I need 15 backing blocks right from the start. I always have a set for female quilts and a set for male quilts even before the request list goes out and when the choice has been made I have my backing strips and backing already cut out. When the request list has been finished I then make another backing set of squares and strips. I do the same thing with the squares, whenever I have some free time I cut the batting and put them into batches of 15. This way I can concentrate on the fronts only.

Next Aussie Hero Quilt And Stitchery.
This is my next Aussie Hero quilt. Request is for Aussie flags, blue and jets.
My daughters first stitchery as an adult. This is her first make of the year, I am really proud of her. Absolutely beautiful.
This is what I have made so far. I have got each piece in zip lock bags and work on them as I want. This is what my daughter and I are going to work on all year long. Loving it!
