Next Aussie Hero Quilt Started.

This is the next Aussie Hero quilt started. This time I am using the Fast & Done quilt as you go method. This is the link to the tutorial on this method.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ok67IvPfyI
The change I have done is making my own grid for the size I need as I don't have the right sized rulers.  I have taped together two cutting mats and taped around the sides as my guides the size I need the backing to be.
This is the 14 inch batting pieces I need for each block.
I fold the backing into 1/4s to find the centre, do the same with the batting and line them up
They are now ready to pin together.
I will do this for all 15 pieces then add the quilt as you go to the tops.

A Lovely Surprise Gift.

Earlier this week I received in the post a surprise, a really lovely gift of orphan squares and half made left over blocks from the lovely Jodie. She is a brilliant toy designer who has recently branched out into fabric design too. Check out her blog.
http://vintagericrac.blogspot.com.au/

The orphan blocks I think go nicely as two distinct groups. Adding my own stash to the projects I am thinking of group 1 as a baby quilt and group 2 as an adult lap quilt.
These half made blocks will be for a baby quilt. As soon as they are made I will show them and let you know what charity they will be going to. Thanks again Jodie,

Cats, Quilt And Shopping.

Tilli and Meggie sleeping in the sewing room this morning.
I took a lot of things to Savers. Clothing my nephew did not want any longer, I bought this set of wire baskets for $4. Before I had a pile of fabric that went in it's place. Now I can get to what I want without having to take the whole thing out. Very happy indeed.

Next Aussie Hero Quilt Started.

I have just drafted up my next quilt. This request is for blue, beach and mountains. In my paper, each square represents 3 inches, cut into segments of 5 blocks by 5 blocks that = 15 inches. No sashings on the front. I will be sewing onto the batting first then adding the backing after. This will be my first attempt at something like this. I hope I can do it.

The Splendid Sampler Sew Along.

I have joined The Splendid Sampler Sew Along. This is the first block. I have no idea what colours I am going for, Just using what I like on the day. It will be very eclectic.
This is their link.

This is how they will be stored.

Wrapping Pens.

I thought I might share with you how I wrap the pens for Aussie Heroes gift packs. Using an A4 plastic sleeve I mark 1 inch apart and another line 1/4 inch away from that. This is my sewing lines.
I then cut them apart between the 1/4 inch marks, keeping the folded edge intact cut across the top to size. I peel off the paper and then the pen is put inside the top folded down and held shut with a sticker.

Aussie Hero Quilt Continued.

As well as the maps I have decided to add the outlines of the countries that have been requested. The quilt will have the maps traced and sewn onto the fabric blocks. All the outlines will be in green to balance out the colours as only one flag has green in it. I have not yet decided what the middle block will be yet.
