Gift Shopping.

This is my ritual, After posting parcels I always go to Spotlight in South Morang. Sometimes I have a plan on what I need to buy, but not always. I went to Spotlight today, Not planning on buying anything when I saw these bargains. Looked at the dates for the candy canes, 2017,  Perfect! I will be using these for the ACDA Christmas party and for the Aussie Hero packages. Total cost, $7.
When I got home I opened them up and this is what i found. 24 wrapped pieces of candy cane in each pack.
These decorations I will have to be creative with these.
 Photo albums and rotary blades.
The next stop was in Vinnies South Morang store, 2016 pens, 6 for $1. I bought the lot, total amount of pens 52. Now I have a goal to meet, 52 parcels for Aussie Heroes.  My job for this afternoon is to test each pen and glad wrap them up individually.
Cards and postcards are always on my list for making up gift packs for Aussie Heroes. I have bought this lot too. Blank cards and postcards with Australian images and famous masters. Total spend for the day, $30.

Aussie Hero Quilt Continued.

Rainbow blocks so far. I have orange and blue left to do. This is so much fun!

Crochet And Quilts.

Square sampler made. The white line running from the top left hand corner down to the bottom right is the starting point. 12 squares long. I will be doing this again 3 more times. The next one will have a colour as the centre line and white as the other and another with colour as the centre line and the last one with white as the centre line. When you join them together in a 4 patch it will make an interesting pattern.
Next Aussie Hero quilt request is for Bright rainbow colours, reading, boxing, sports and animals.
These are the fabrics I will be using.
This is the plan. Using the quilt as you go method.

Crochet And Crib Quilt.

I love to crochet and this an experiment I am trying out. I did not want to have the half square triangles. The first row, in this case it is the bottom white row and this is the length.
Working only on the Ls on the next row makes the crochet 2 squares less on each row. The next row was red.
Back onto white again for 3rd row.
Flip the thing over and do the same for the red row. This is now using the cast on edge. You can see how it is becoming a square.
I hope this makes it easier to visualise.
I have decided on how I am making the baby quilt. 4 patch blocks with white sashings.
Yesterday I made more Aussie Hero quilt labels, Left them over night to dry, heat set them with an iron, washed and trimmed and ironed again. The next thing to do will be to place a piece of cotton/calico fabric over the top and sew all around. Make a slit on the fabric and turn the whole thing right sides out which will enclose all the raw edges inside. They will then be ironed again and ready to be used.

Aussie Hero Laundry Bag.

This is the laundry bag to go with the quilt just made.
All the laundry bags have Hard Yakka cord band in them from Savers in Mill Park last year when it closed in January. The Hard Yakka pants themselves are a cotton drill fabric and very sturdy.

I look through this first, Meggie got into it as I was putting it all back. She has fallen asleep so I will have to put it away later.

Shopping And Finds.

Yesterday I did some fabric sorting. I went through all the fabrics I had and took all the dressmaking fabrics I had that I do not have time to use and other fabric assortments down to Savers in Greensborough. I went in the store and the first thing I bought was this photo album. I am transferring all my last years pictures into it so that I can fill the little albums with this years photos of my makes into the small albums.
This is what I bought back with me from Savers. I am always on the look out for inclusions in my gift packs for Aussie Heroes. I look out for cards, These have hand painted Australian wildflowers.
 Lovely stationary.
Cute animal wild life with wonderful envelopes.
Sometimes you get Really Lucky. I took a walk around my area, (something I should do more often) and saw this box on the nature strip among other things.
I opened it up to find these. I knocked on the door to make sure that they were for picking up and indeed they were! I am a very lucky girl indeed.
From the Reject shop I bought these emery boards. $2 each for a pack of 30. These will be included in the gift packs too. I will use these ones for the boys and keep the pink ones I already have for the girls.
