Savers Again!

I did not believe it was possible, but I went to Savers again, this time with my husband, He wanted to check out if they had any records left. No records but he did find a belt. They were selling the last of the things for 10 for $1. I got this lot for $2.

Last Trip To Savers.

Savers in Mill Park is closing today. They are selling everything at $1 each. I spent $30 on this lot.
Plans for this lot? Shirts, turned into quilt blocks, bias binding and the cuffs, I plan to undo the side seam, add a zip, Instant wrist purses. Buttons for the jar to be used in later projects, pockets to be inserted into bags. Wool jackets, turned into toys, pin cushions and appliques. Jeans! I am thinking many things here, bags, tops of the laundry bags, teddy bears to name but a few. and lastly but not least, these bright orange Hard Yakka pants with safety reflective strips, kids back packs, tops of laundry bags. This was a really fun trip!
Work in progress, My $1 ironing board had been dismantled, cardboard covered fabric inserted and $4 worth of dowels have been cut to size, inserted into the frame and will be wall mounted using the velcro wall strips designed for picture frames.

Gift For Myself.

I had a lovely chat with my daughter this morning, our usual weekly catch up and this morning I had made 7 of the 20 laundry bags needed in January. It was during this time that I realised I was ahead of the commitments I had put my name down to do and thought how nice it would be to make this bag.
This lovely book was on special in Spotlight for $5, I bought it and the blue peacock remnant was from there too. The rest is scraps from previous projects including the batting.
This is the bag I will be making from the book.

Aussie Hero Quilt.

Today I have made another Aussie Hero quilt. This time the request was for aqua and elephants. All over quilted.
It is the same on both sides. They were a pair of cotton curtains from Savers ages ago, I was going to use them for laundry bags but when this request came through, I thought perfect.

Quilt Continued.

They are not ironed on yet, but they are placed where I want them.
I thought I might show you a close up of the fabric I used on the dragons.

A Good Idea.

I have made my templates out of a plastic table mat and then discovered that I could not write on it with a pen, it would rub off so I hit upon this idea. Write it anyway with a felt tip pen and then cover what you wrote with sticky tape. Problem solved!

Aussie Hero Quilt In Progress.

This is the Aussie Hero quilt I am working on at the moment. His favourite colours are red, blue and black and dragons. I will be appliqueing 2 dragons on the quilt, I have the image I want, Just have to go to Office works to get it resized. One dragon will be red and the other black, they will be positioned on the quilt tail to tail.

Cute Stuff.

Abby Glassenberg has shared with us her delightful little doll pattern. Perfect for the littlies hands.

Last Shopping At Savers Mill Park.

It is very sad that Savers in Mill Park is closing, I went there today after posting my latest quilt as per usual only to find it half empty. Everything left is half price so if you want to go there you have until the 27th to do so. I did find this doona cover that I will turn into bias binding for a lot of quilts next year. I will be cutting it so that the red white and blue will be in stripes. This quilting book that is all about applique and 12 inch paper pieced blocks, just the perfect size for my quilts. and lastly the photo paper to turn into post cards for part of the Aussie Hero care packages.
This arrived in the post today, It was advertised on Facebook and I signed up for them. 5 free cards with envelopes that I will use for Aussie Heroes care packages. (I have used one card and envelope already today).

Laundry Bag.

This is the laundry bag to go with the quilt. She wanted something fun and Queensland, I think banana and pineapples say it for me, and also the fabric is blue her favourite colour. Posting it this afternoon.
My next quilt is going to be a new one for me, trying out paper piecing. The theme dragons! after that in January I will be making a whole load of laundry bags.

Aussie Hero Quilt Finished.

This is the back of the quilt.
This is the front of the quilt. I will be making a laundry bag tomorrow and posting it in the afternoon.

Quilt Continued.

This is the quilt so far. The logos have been appliqued on and the name written with fabric markers. They will be trimmed and sewn together with no strips in between and the seams opened up and pressed flat. There are 5 rows of 3 blocks. The back will then be pinned on and quilted again and the binding put on. The binding will be in red.

ACDA Christmas Party And Quilting.

This is the layout for the Aussie Hero quilt I am working on. The two empty spaces will have white fabric blocks with the Waratahs logo on them in a mirror fashion. The request is for mainly blue, Aussie Army fabric, flag and the Waratahs.
At the cloth doll club yesterday I spent $20 on raffle tickets for the charity we are supporting this year, I won a prize! A $20 Spotlight voucher this is what I bought today. Two meters of each of these fabrics from Roxburgh Park, the new store that opened, I also used this voucher from the back of the magazine and a 20% off scratch card. So thank you ladies very much! All will be used for Aussie Hero quilts.
https://www.spotlight.com.au/store/roxburgh-park/
The quilt I am working on is using scraps of all my blues made into large blocks sewn and quilted onto the batting. The backing will be in one piece and added after and then quilted again and this time the lines will be going diagonally on the quilt, in a X on each block.
This is my preliminary reference diagram of the emblem for the white blocks.  The actual logo will be larger. I need to take the time to draw it out properly.
At the Christmas party on Saturday we had a decoration swap and a pincushion swap. This was what I got, Simply divine!
 Such a clever idea.
This is the pin cushion I received, Just the best kind of cup cake.  Wishing all of the wonderful people at A.C.D.A. a safe and Merry Christmas, See you all in February.

Left Over Fabric.

Just over a year and a half ago I made this costume for my son.
 This is the finished product.
Originally we were going to have the front covered with patches done individually but realised early on that it would take too long and be very heavy, since he was going to be going in and out of water, up and down obstacles we altered it. I did however save all the bits I had cut out and today, I had a reason to use them.
They are the perfect size for the snips I have bought to hand out for gifts at the A.C.D.A. Christmas party so took me no time at all to assemble.
One snip on the right side of the pocket and they are ready to go. I had just the right amount of pieces too! All set for Saturday.

Savers Mill Park Closing.

Tilli and Meggie in the front garden.
Today I went around my favourite stores and handed out Christmas prezzies.
Some sad news today, Savers in Mill Park will be closing down on the 27th December. Some but not all of the staff will have jobs. My thoughts to the universe that they get jobs soon.
